Child Abuse Case Handled
December 19: A 13-years-old boy (K) was kidnapped and sexually abused by unidentified persons. CRC Sibi met the victim's family and offered them free legal assistance. Police arrested 5 juveniles accused of the crime. The ages of the juveniles are between 11 to 14. CRC is following up the case.

Advocacy for Polio Vaccination
October 6: CRC Buner called on a Jirga to discuss a polio virus case discovery. Polio virus was found in a child of UC Shalbandi, therefore members of the local jirga, CRC members, health department officials and UNICEF representatives gathered to discuss the issue . The village elders stressed the local community to cooperate with the vaccination team members and remove the misconceptions spread by Mullas.
School Visits
CRC Buner visited a private school and a Baitul Maal school and briefed the teachers on negative impact of corporal punishment.
CRC Abbottabad visited 3 government schools, and distributed IEC material on corporal punishment. CRC also contributed for the trophies for winning students in a prize distribution ceremony of a school.
CRC Lower Dir distributed note books among outstanding students of a school run by support from individuals for poor children.
CRC Charsadda visited 3 schools to monitor corporal punishment cases.
CRC Mardan visited 7 schools to evaluate the results of teachers’ trainings held by SPARC. |

Jail Visit
October 18: CRC coordinator visited the central jail Bannu. The total number of juvenile inmates was 39 out of which 16 were under trial and 23 were convicted. 2 prisoners were without legal aid and were referred to the lawyer members of the CRC.
The jail authorities had provided teachers and a doctor for the juveniles but lacked books and medicines. Sanitary conditions were found to be poor. CRC discussed these issues with the Jail Superintendent.
Meeting with EDO Education November 10: CRC members met the EDO education to discuss the issue of closure of schools in far flung villages of the district due to non availability of the teachers. The EDO regretted the political influence in hiring and transfers of teachers far away from their homes. He assured the CRC that in the next hiring phase only teachers from the local areas shall be preferred to avoid teachers’ absenteeism. |

Celebration of Universal Children’s day
November 20: In a meeting before the universal children’s day, majority of the CRC members planned a walk. This awareness walk was aimed to bring the masses together and highlight the child rights and child rights rights situation in the district. The members held boards and charts with slogans on child rights according to the UNCRC. The procession ended at the press club Mardan.
Meeting with Labour Inspectors
November 29: CRC visited the Labour Department of Mardan to meet labour inspectors. They discussed problems of child labour in Mardan specially violation of the ECA 1991 citing actual cases in Mardan. SPARC’s documentary on the issue of Child Domestic Labour and brochures on child labour were also shared with the officers who regretted the situation and lamented the non-implementation of laws. They encouraged CRC to highlight the issue through local cable network.
CPCs Established
November 10: CRC held a meeting with Child Protection Unit (CPU) Officer and on his advice CRC Coordinator established 9 UC level Child Protection Committees whose members would raise their voices on child rights violations.
Intervention in Murder Case
November 15: In village Ghari kapora, three teenage girls were killed by 5 unknown persons but police arrested only two of the accused. CRC issued a press release and condemned the incident demanding the police to arrest the other persons involved in this case. CRC also offered free legal aid to the affected family.
Jail Visit
November 16: CRC visited the juvenile section of district Jail Mardan to assess the needs of the inmates. There were 24 juveniles in the ward out of which 4 had no any legal assistance. The CRC members assured free legal assistance to them. |

November 7: CRC Charsadda visited local civil society organizations working on child rights and protection. During the meetings the need to work in a coordinated way to protect and promote child rights was highlighted. |

SMS Campaign on Child Abuse
November 19: CRC Jhelum celebrated universal children’s day against child abuse by initiating a SMS campaign in the district to raise awareness in the community. CRC demanded the authorities to improve the birth registration rate as only 27 per cent children are being registered according to UN report, CRC coordinator said.

Bonded Labourers Released
December 16: CRC Badin's Advocate Kamran Lakho had filed an application in the Court of District & Session Judge regarding stating that the land lord Ghulam Muhammad of village Pehlwan Laghari had illegally kept 17 labourers including 7 children and 6 women in his private jail for forced labour. The Court ordered the police to recover and release the bonded families who were then freed after the verdict of the court.
Child Abuse Case Handled
December 14: A 5-years-old boy (A) was sexually assaulted in the jurisdictions of Talhar police station. Responding to the situation, CRC Coordinator and SPARC Badin's Coordinator Ram immediately met the victim’s family who complained against the police for not lodging FIR against the abuser.CRC conducted a press conference condemning the issue and pressurised the Police to play its positive role. Finally, the police had to lodge FIR under PPC-377 and arrested the abuser Shahid Sheedi. CRC also offered legal aid to the family. |

Seminar on Child Rights
November 1: A seminar was organized by CRC Kambar in high school Meena in collaboration with local CBO Aakash Welfare. Speaking on the occasion the CRC coordinator said that state should provide the facilities of libraries and science laboratories, health and hygiene in the rural schools. The school staff also highlighted the importance of child rights and appreciated CRC for getting third best CRC of Sindh this year.
Rally Carried Out on Child Abductions
November 2: A joint rally was taken out by Child Rights Committee Kambar and Rahbar social Development Organization against the increasing incidents of child abductions and poor condition of law and order in the district Kambar. They also staged agitation before press club holding banners and placards. It was participated by scores of civil society members, students, teachers and citizens from different walks of life. CRC demanded from the authorities to release immediately the abducted children Amina, Shakeel and Ghafaar Bhutto, and establish law and order in the district. |

Follow Up Visits with SPARC Team
October 12: CRC team alongwith Suhail Abro and Sharjeel Soomro from SPARC Karachi conducted visit to district jail. They visited the juvenile inmates and requested the jailor to make a separate ward for juveniles in addition to offering free legal aid to 3 inmates. The team also visited thalassemia centre and dengue ward of civil hospital. The team also met District & Session Judge cum Director Human Rights and discussed about the penal of lawyers, which has been notified in all districts of Sindh according to him.
November 24: SPARC’s National Manager CSS Jahanzeb Khan and Sharjeel Soomro visited district jail along with CRC coordinator and members. They met Jail Superintendent and District & Session Judge was also visiting the jail, and visited Juvenile inmates’ ward, which the Jail administration has separated on request of SPARC. Assessing the needs and conditions of Juvenile ward SPARC team promised to provide sports, educational and hygiene items to the inmates. |

Protection of Victims of Harmful Traditional Practices
October 17: CRC protected the two minor girls for whom the Jirga had decided to be given in exchange of an honour killing case. According to girls’ mother Safoora, in the village Gharko near Ghotki Mohmmed Nawaz Mahesr killed his aunt declaring her karo kari with Safoora’s husband Wajid Ali. Afterward allegedly accused Wajid ali was forced by tribe’s jirga to pay a fine of Rs. 1,50,000 and to give his minor daughter Shumaila and niece Saeeda to compensate the other party to which he refused. The opposite party attacked his family, captured his crops and forced them to leave the village. Moreover, the police refused to lodge FIR against them.
Sharing her story, disheartened Safoora said she would burn herself and the two minors in front of Sindh High Court as threats from the feudal lords threatened the people not to help her. CRC extended full support and met SSP Sukkur Police to establish a police picket in the village to prevent any bloodshed. CRC also convinced the tribesmen to revert the decision.
October 1: In another case, Jirga ordered Imdad Maher of village Khanpur to give his 4-years-old sister as compensation as he had married a girl of the opposite party in court. The couple was declared guilty and several attempts were made to kill them. CRC extended their support by providing g free legal aid to the family as the police had not arrested the accused persons although FIR had been lodged.
Visit to District Jail Ghotki
October 10: CRC and SPARC team conducted a visit of juvenile ward of district jail Ghotki where they found 10 juvenile inmates in a clean ward, medicines were available in abundance but doctor was not yet appointed. There was no teacher despite a new building of school, where the inmates can only get hey get religious education. During interviews, CRC decided to provide legal aid to two inmates. They shared their concerns and observations with Jail Superintendent too. |

Consultation on Impact of Floods on Children
November 3: A consultation on impact of floods on children was organized by CRC where 40 participants discussed the issue. CRC coordinator emphasized the need for joint efforts to bring happiness in the lives of flood-stricken children. Mr. Abdul Razaq from HANDS offered to provide food items to children, and arrange different activities for them. Kashif Bajeer offered other organizations, volunteers and media representatives to join SPARC for this cause to solve the basic issues of flood-affected children. |

Press Conference for the Abused Child Labourer
October 10: A 14-years-old labourer (A) was sexually assaulted in a textile mill by Muhammad Ali, a Foreman, and tortured on resistance. His screams brought other workers there but they were beaten by the Foreman’s allies. The boy worked there with his elder brother to support his family.
The CRC helped the family in getting medical aid for the boy. CRC held a press conference against the biased role of Police, as they did not lodge FIR, took huge amount from the accused party and threatened the aggrieved family to take back the case. They also requested from Labour Minister and authorities to take strict actions against mill administration on terminating 11 workers including brothers of the abused boy.
A direct application was put in the Court of Additional Session Judge by CRC, and after the Court orders 1641/10-10-2011 police lodged the FIR. Mill administration was also called by Assistant Labour Director and a penalty was imposed. |

November 20: Member CRC Umerkot, Mumtaz Kubhar wrote articles on children’s issues and importance of their rights on universal children’s day which were published in local newspapers. He highlighted the issues of child labour, corporal punishment, sexual abuse, negligence, early child marriages, trafficking and harmful practices. |

Distribution of Ration Bags in IDPs
October 3: CRC Naushero Feroz distributed food ration bags among 75 flood affected families of village Chhutal Rajper’s IDPs camp provided to them by District Government after they conducted a survey and made list of the flood affected people in the area.
Public Interest Litigation against Authorities
October 26: CRC filed public interest litigation against DCO, EDO-Health and M.S Civil Hospital. According to a native Mumtaz, during recent torrential rains his two sons Sajjad (6) and Ali (5) were severely injured broke their shoulder bones when a wall collapsed down over them. After 3 days of inadequate treatment in the hospital, they were forcibly discharged by the doctors despite swelling in their bones and serious pain which became worse day after day. District Government did not compensate him for his property damages too, and he being a daily wager could not provide medical treatment to his sons.
In order to help his children, CRC held demonstrations and met the concerned authorities, but positive response was given by them. Eventually, CRC Coordinator submitted an application in the Court of Sessions Judge / Director Human Rights Naushero Feroz. |

Rally on Early Marriages
December 13: CRC Larkana held an awareness rally against early child marriages. The rally highlighted the gravity of the issue. CRC and members of child rights clubs emphasized the role of government in access to education for girls.
Press Release on Child Rights Violations
November 2: CRC Larkana conducted a fact finding survey on child rights violations and issued a press release sharing that in Sindh during October 12 children were murdered including 6 girls, 12 children were kidnapped including 4 girls, 6 children were sexually abused and one of them was killed by the abuser, 33 children died in different accidents, 3 dead bodies of newborns were found, 12 children drowned in the torrential rain water while police handcuffed 11 children after arrest. The press release appeared in Sindhi & Urdu newspapers.
