:: Daily Times :: March 15 :: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sub-committee has taken exception to irregularities in the use of funds collected from students in educational institutions and constituted an inter-ministerial committee to submit a report within two months. It has observed that some educational institutions are being run like police stations and some are charging Rs 100 per student in development funds despite the fact that the ministry had notified the college to stop that fund in 1996. :: Daily Times :: March 13 :: Girl students in Mardan have started wearing burqas (veils) after schools received anonymous letters warning that acid would be thrown on girls without burqas and schools would be bombed. Now school’s administration had warned the girls that they would be fined for not wearing burqas. Mardan DPO Akhtar Hayat Gandapur told that the Katlang Girls High School and the Mardan Shah Dand Girls School had received threatening letters. Policemen and policewomen had been deployed at the two schools for security. (Peshawar) |

:: Dawn :: March 9 :: Six schoolboys and a rickshaw driver were killed and seven other people were injured when a truck rammed into two rickshaws near Khanqah Dogran, Nankana district.
At least 20 children from the Salar Bhattian village were on their way to school in Khanqah in two rickshaws. The rickshaw drivers started racing on the Sargodha Road. Due to over-speeding they could not avoid being rammed by a truck.
Six other students, including two schoolgirls, and a rickshaw driver were seriously injured and were admitted to a local hospital.
The truck driver had escaped immediately after the accident. (Sheikhupura) |
