The health sector has been allocated Rs 5.240 billion for the fiscal year 2007-08, which is 10.8 percent more than the Rs 4.728 billion for the outgoing fiscal year 2006-07. During budget speech, State Minister for Finance Omar Ayub Khan told the National Assembly that the government had allocated Rs 5.240 billion in the budget estimates of 2007-08 for health services and affairs. Of this hospitals will get a Rs 4.296 billion share, which was Rs 3.884 billion in the outgoing fiscal year. In addition, Rs 318 million was earmarked for Public Health Services that was Rs 272 million in 2006-07, while Rs 571 million had been allocated for health administration as against the previous year’s Rs 520 million. The government will also provide Rs 53 million for the purchase of medical products, appliances and hospital equipment. As against the current increase of 10.8 percent, the health sector received a 14.5 percent increase in allocations for the year 2006-2007, while the actual allocation of Rs 3.984 billion was revised to Rs 4.759 billion.
